Eco-restoration of Tropical Dry Evergreen

TDEFs are unique forest type characterized by short statured highly branched evergreen species with few deciduous and brevi-deciduous species, and have considerable density of lianas with coriaceous leaves well adapted to the erratic monsoon and long dry season (3-6 months).

In spite of the harsh environment these forest types are high in productivity, and are known for their bio-resource potential. Conservation of wild flora in this forest patch will help to preserve potentially important and useful genes for crop plants. Home to many rare species of flora, most of them are endemic to this region. Eco Society India is restoring these TDEF’s distributed in the coromandel coast affected by various man made disturbances with community participation.
